eBook (PDF) Describing the Servo Motor
Sizing Process
September 29, 2008
Copperhill Media offers literature on servo motor sizing that is
available as paperback through Amazon.com or in form of eBooks (PDF) through
the publisher's web site. 'A Comprehensible Guide to Servo Motor Sizing'
describes all equations and algorithms necessary for the sizing process,
including inertia and torque calculations for mechanisms such as lead
screws, rotary tables, actuators, gears, and more. Also included is the
calculation of duty cycles including a detailed description of S-Curve (Jerk
Limitation) calculation.
eBooks (PDF) Describing CAN, CANopen and
SAE J1939 Protocol Standards
September 29, 2008
Copperhill Media offers a variety of literature on the Controller
Area Network (CAN), CANopen and SAE J1939 Protocol Standards. All books are
avaiable as paperback, but can also be downloaded in eBook (PDF) form.
And the front runner is... EtherCAT!
September 9, 2008
The automobile industry is currently exploring and, to some degree, using
systems such as FlexRay, LIN and Time-triggered CAN, however, when it comes
to industrial automation the main focus is definitely on Ethernet-based
technologies. Ethernet supports a data rate of up to 100 Mbits/sec, but does
lack the real-time capabilities and very short error recovery times of CAN.
These short-comings have been resolved with the emergence of industrial
Ethernet based protocols. Copperhill Media has created an Online
survey to shed a light on the market’s preferences on fieldbus technologies.
So far more than 160 engineers have contributed to the current result, which
favors EtherCAT over Ethernet/IP.
Literature Release: A Comprehensible Guide to J1939
June 26, 2008
SAE J1939 has become the accepted
industry standard and the vehicle network technology of choice for
off-highway machines in applications such as construction, material
handling, and forestry machines. J1939 is a higher-layer protocol based on
Controller Area Network (CAN). It provides serial data communications
between microprocessor systems (also called Electronic Control Units - ECU)
in any kind of heavy duty vehicles. The messages exchanged between these
units can be data such as vehicle road speed, torque control message from
the transmission to the engine, oil temperature, and many more.
A Comprehensible Guide to J1939 is the first work on J1939 besides
the SAE J1939 standards collection. It provides profound information on the
J1939 message format and network management combined with a high level of
readability.

motor data.
Online
Forum provides insights on SAE J1939 vehicle protocol
June 1, 2008
According to Wikipedia, the biggest
multilingual free-content encyclopedia on the Internet, "SAE J1939 is the
vehicle bus standard used for communication and diagnostics among vehicle
components, originally by the car and heavy duty truck industry in the United
States." Beyond that statement, and despite a growing popularity, there is only
few information to find on J1939 and the same is true for the entire World Wide
Web.
